New Zealand has roughly five million people and a currency that trades around the clock in every major financial centre. NZD/USD, the kiwi, is the smallest of the majors by turnover and the liveliest by daily movement. The converter above prices it from latest European Central Bank reference data.
A New Zealand dollar currently buys under 60 US cents, so expect your converted figure to shrink noticeably in this direction and expand in the other. Both readings sit on screen simultaneously.
1 NZD = 0.5762 USD and 1 USD = 1.7354 NZD at the European Central Bank reference rate published on 16 September 2026. That means 100 New Zealand dollars converts to 57.62 US dollars, and 100 US dollars converts to 173.54 New Zealand dollars.
The New Zealand dollar is trading in the lower part of its recent range against the US dollar. The pair sits below its 30 day average of 0.5885 and the 21 August high of 0.5987.
These figures reflect the latest ECB reference rate, which the European Central Bank publishes once each working day at around 16:00 Central European Time. This page checks for a new fixing every hour, and the converter above uses the same rate.

Only AUD/USD has gained more over the past month. NZD/USD is up 2.96 percent since 29 July, climbing from 0.57740 to 0.59449, with a peak of 0.59869 on 21 August. The month’s trough was 0.57740 on 29 July, producing a 3.69 percent span.
The 2026 range sits between 0.56386 and 0.60785, so the kiwi is close to its best level of the year but has not yet cleared it. Sixty US cents is the threshold immediately overhead; the pair pressed to within a fifth of a cent of it on 21 August and has eased back since.
Historically the range is far wider. NZD/USD reached 0.88182 on 11 July 2014 during the dairy boom, and fell as low as 0.39203 on 19 October 2000. Today’s rate sits nearer the middle, closer to the weak end than the strong.

|---|---|---|
| 24 hours | -0.0015 | -0.25% |

Down 0.11 percent, from 0.59511 to 0.59449. Set against a 0.37 percent average day this is close to flat.
A 0.70 percent decline from the 21 August peak of 0.59869. The first give-back week after a month of gains, and so far an orderly one.
Up 2.96 percent from 0.57740, and above the 30 day average of 0.5897. The kiwi bottomed on 29 July and advanced almost without pause into late August. The Australian dollar has run even harder over the same window, and both antipodeans have gained on sterling too, which reads as a genuine risk-currency bid layered on top of a soft US dollar.
New Zealand exports food to a world that keeps eating, which sounds stable and is not. Roughly a quarter of export earnings come from dairy alone, and the currency inherits every swing in global commodity demand, amplified by an economy small enough that capital flows move it easily.

The kiwi punches above its weight. Turnover is a fraction of EUR/USD, yet NZD/USD produces the largest average daily percentage move of any pair on this site. That combination, small market and big swings, is what makes it attractive to some traders and unsuitable for others. Liquidity is deepest during the Asian session and thins considerably by the New York afternoon.
Rising, though cooling at the top. Up 2.96 percent on the month, above the 30 day average of 0.5897, 2.2 percent below the 2026 high of 0.60785, and consolidating beneath the 0.60 handle after a 0.70 percent pullback week. Momentum still favours the kiwi, and the Australian dollar’s parallel run marks this as a broad antipodean move.
An average daily move of 0.37 percent over 30 days, with a 1.17 percent maximum session. That daily average is tied with USD/JPY for the highest of any pair covered on this site.
| Antipodean pair | 30 day range | Average daily move |
|---|---|---|
| NZD/USD | 3.69% | 0.37% |
| AUD/USD | 3.66% | 0.30% |
| GBP/AUD | 1.83% | 0.23% |
| GBP/NZD | 1.21% | 0.27% |
One distinction worth holding onto: USD/JPY still produces the single most violent sessions on this site, with a 2.22 percent day inside the last month against the kiwi’s 1.17 percent. NZD/USD is the more consistently active pair; USD/JPY is the more dangerous one. | 0.60 handle | 0.60000 | A round number the pair has approached but not held this month. |
| 30 day high | 0.59869 | 21 August 2026, just short of 0.60. |

Three percent in a month on one of the two most active pairs we track raises an obvious question and a converter answers none of it. Our free forex signals are built for that decision.

Two practical notes from our desk. First, the kiwi and the Aussie move together closely enough that holding both long against the dollar is usually one trade, not two, and traders regularly end up with double the intended exposure without noticing. Second, this pair does its real work while London and New York are asleep. A position left open overnight from Europe is exposed to a full Asian session of dairy prices, Chinese data and RBNZ commentary that you will not see until morning. Plan entries and stops with that in mind.

One New Zealand dollar equals 0.5762 US dollars on the ECB fixing of 16 September 2026. The converter refreshes that figure every hour.
57.62 US dollars at the reference rate. Banks, cards and bureaux each apply a margin, so the sum you actually receive will be lower, commonly by 2 to 5 percent.
576.24 US dollars. Scaling from there, 10,000 New Zealand dollars converts to 5,762.36 US, and 500 converts to 288.12 US.
Yes. NZD/USD has risen 2.96 percent over 30 days, second only to AUD/USD among the pairs on this site. It reached 0.59869 on 21 August and trades above its 30 day average of 0.5897, though the latest week gave back 0.70 percent. The Australian dollar has advanced even further over the same window, which points to a broad antipodean bid with a soft US dollar underneath.
That framing suits the long run rather than the present. Right now the kiwi is among the strongest performers on this site. But at 0.5762 it sits far beneath the 0.88182 peak of July 2014, and the decline since reflects real changes: dairy prices well off their boom-era highs, slower Chinese consumption growth, and the erosion of the yield advantage that once made New Zealand a favoured carry destination.
It has come within 12 cents. NZD/USD peaked at 0.88182 on 11 July 2014, its highest reading in ECB records, though it has never reached parity. The weakest point on record is 0.39203, set on 19 October 2000, when a kiwi bought less than 40 US cents.
Both currencies float freely and trade continuously. The dominant influences are global dairy prices, Chinese demand, Reserve Bank of New Zealand policy relative to the Federal Reserve, and overall risk appetite. New Zealand’s economy is small enough that capital flows can move the currency more than domestic fundamentals do.
As a reference, yes. As a dealing price, no. The ECB publishes one mid-market fixing per working day, while trading runs continuously between a bid and an ask. NZD/USD spreads are wider than the larger majors because turnover is thinner, and they widen further once Asian markets close. Always price from your broker’s live quote.
The page reads ECB data hourly, but the ECB publishes only one fixing per working day at roughly 16:00 Central European Time. For this pair that is poor timing: Wellington and Sydney closed hours earlier, so a significant Asian session move will not surface in the reference rate until the following day.
Sourced from European Central Bank reference rates through the Frankfurter API, cached for sixty minutes. These are mid-market figures, positioned between wholesale bid and offer, and no retail customer is quoted them. Their function here is as a measuring stick. Convert your amount on this page, compare it against the rate a bank or transfer service has offered, and the difference is the true cost of the transaction. Published for information, not as financial advice. On the ECB’s own description, these are reference averages, not transaction prices.

Currency trading involves risk and will not suit every investor. Prices move quickly around data releases and central bank decisions. NZD/USD carries two characteristics worth naming: its average daily movement is tied with USD/JPY for the largest of any pair on this site, and its deepest liquidity falls outside European and North American hours, so positions held overnight from those regions face a full session of price discovery unobserved. Fix your risk limits before you enter.
