GBP/CHF is a recovery story. The pound hit its all-time low against the Swiss franc on 14 November 2025 at 1.0383, the weakest reading in European Central Bank records going back to 1999. It came close to retesting that floor on 27 February 2026 at 1.0389, and has climbed since. At 1.0924 the pair is 5.2 percent above its record low and sits near the top of its 2026 range.
Over the past 30 days the pair traded as low as 1.0873 on 31 July 2026 and as high as 1.0990 on 18 August 2026, a range of 1.08 percent. That August high is also the 2026 high. The 30 day average is 1.0929.
The long view is stark. GBP/CHF peaked at 2.7114 on 28 April 2000. The pound has lost roughly 60 percent of its value against the Swiss franc since then, one of the steepest sustained declines of any major currency pair.
| Period | Change | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| 24 hours | +0.0014 | +0.13% |
| 7 days | +0.0039 | +0.35% |
| 30 days | +0.0043 | +0.39% |
The pound eased 0.10 percent against the Swiss franc in the last session, moving from 1.0935 to 1.0924. Well inside the pair’s average daily move of 0.17 percent.
Over seven days GBP/CHF rose 0.06 percent, up from 1.0917. The pair reached its 2026 high of 1.0990 on 18 August and has hovered just beneath it since, a pause rather than a reversal.
Over 30 days GBP/CHF rose 0.25 percent, up from 1.0897. The pair trades within a whisker of its 30 day average of 1.0929, in the upper half of the monthly band. Sterling has been grinding higher against the franc for weeks without a decisive break.
GBP/CHF moves on the policy gap between the Bank of England and the Swiss National Bank, and above all on global risk appetite. The Swiss franc is the world’s benchmark safe haven currency, which means this pair falls during periods of fear regardless of what is happening in the UK or Switzerland.

GBP/CHF pairs the most news-sensitive of the majors with the most defensive. That combination produces a pair with a long-run downtrend and sharp, fast drops during risk-off episodes. Traders who are short sterling against the franc have been on the right side of history for a quarter century, which is exactly why the recent recovery is worth watching rather than assuming.
Sterling is recovering off a record low. GBP/CHF is up 0.25 percent over 30 days and 5.2 percent above the all-time low of 1.0383 set in November 2025. It trades level with its 30 day average of 1.0929 and just below the 2026 high of 1.0990. The direction is up, but from a historically depressed base, and the pair has stalled below that August high since mid month.
Average daily movement over the past 30 days was 0.17 percent, with the largest single session move at 0.87 percent. That places GBP/CHF in the middle of the sterling crosses on daily movement.
| Pair | 30 day range | Average daily move |
|---|---|---|
| GBP/JPY | 3.36% | 0.34% |
| GBP/USD | 2.76% | 0.23% |
| GBP/AUD | 1.83% | 0.23% |
| GBP/CHF | 1.08% | 0.17% |
| GBP/CAD | 1.01% | 0.17% |
| GBP/EUR | 0.47% | 0.09% |
The average understates the tail risk on this pair. Its largest single session move of the month was 0.87 percent, five times the daily average, and safe haven currencies move fastest precisely when everything else is going wrong. Volatility rises around Swiss National Bank and Bank of England announcements, UK inflation releases, and any broad flight to safety. | All-time low | 1.0383 | Set on 14 November 2025. The weakest sterling has ever been against the franc in ECB records. |
Converter data tells you where the rate is. It does not tell you what to do with it, and on a pair that can gap on news from anywhere in the world that gap matters. Read how our free forex signals work, or join the group below.

The GBP/CHF rate gives a useful snapshot of the current exchange value, but traders should also review volatility, market sentiment, and upcoming economic events before making decisions. This pair is unusual in that its biggest moves are often triggered by events with no connection to the UK or Switzerland. A banking scare in another country or a geopolitical flare-up can send the franc higher within minutes. The Forex Complex team recommends using this converter together with live forex signals, technical analysis, and proper risk management.
If you are starting from francs, type into the second field and the pound value updates as you go. That is the more common direction for anyone checking a Swiss bill or card statement.

One pound converts to 1.1021 francs at the European Central Bank reference rate published on 16 September 2026. The converter refreshes hourly.
100 Swiss francs converts to 90.74 pounds at the current reference rate of 1 CHF = 0.9074 GBP. Banks, bureaux de change, and card providers apply their own margin, so the amount you actually receive will be lower than this mid-market figure.
Not in nominal terms, but only just. One pound buys 1.1021 Swiss francs, so sterling still has the higher unit value. The gap is the narrowest of any major sterling pair, and it has been closing for decades. In November 2025 the pair fell to 1.0383, the closest to parity in ECB records.
Three structural reasons. Switzerland runs a persistent current account surplus, which creates steady demand for the franc. Swiss inflation has been consistently lower than in the UK or the eurozone, so the franc loses purchasing power more slowly. And the franc is the world’s benchmark safe haven, so global investors buy it during periods of uncertainty. Together those forces have pushed GBP/CHF down roughly 60 percent from its 2000 peak of 2.7114.
Pay in Swiss francs. When a card terminal or website offers to charge you in pounds instead, that is dynamic currency conversion, and the provider sets its own exchange rate with a margin built in, typically 3 to 6 percent. Choosing the local currency lets your own bank or card issuer do the conversion, which is almost always cheaper. The rate on this page is the mid-market benchmark you can use to check what you were actually charged.
GBP/CHF changes constantly because both currencies trade in an open global market. The main drivers are the interest rate gap between the Bank of England and the Swiss National Bank, and global risk sentiment. Because the franc is a safe haven, this pair often moves on events with no direct connection to either the UK or Switzerland.
The pound’s weakest recorded level against the Swiss franc was 1.0383, set on 14 November 2025. It nearly retested that floor on 27 February 2026 at 1.0389. The opposite extreme was 28 April 2000, when GBP/CHF reached 2.7114 and one pound bought more than two and a half francs.
Reference, not quote. The ECB fixes a mid-market rate once per working day, and brokers price a spread either side. GBP/CHF spreads widen noticeably during risk-off episodes, which is exactly when the pair moves most, so a live quote can differ sharply from a calm-market expectation. Check before entering.
The converter pulls ECB data hourly; the ECB itself fixes once per working day at around 16:00 Central European Time. Switzerland sits in the same time zone as the eurozone, so unlike the Pacific and Asian pairs, this fixing captures the Swiss session as it closes. No publication at weekends or on ECB holidays.
Figures come from European Central Bank reference rates via the Frankfurter API, cached for an hour. This is the mid-market rate: halfway between wholesale bid and offer, and not a rate offered to retail customers. It matters most here as a checking tool. If a Swiss card terminal offered to bill you in pounds, the rate it used was set by the merchant’s payment provider, not by the market. Convert the amount here and the difference is what that convenience cost you. Information only, not financial advice. The ECB publishes them for information; they are averages, not tradeable quotes.

Forex trading involves risk and may not be suitable for every trader. Exchange rates can move quickly during periods of high volatility, economic news, and central bank announcements. The Swiss franc in particular can move violently during risk-off events, and the Swiss National Bank has intervened directly in currency markets before.
